SAC Phi Theta Kappa Chapter Looks Back on Successful Year

In November, San Antonio College’s Beta Nu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the national honor society, held their fall induction ceremony for new members. SAC President Dr. Robert Vela, gave the keynote address and the International President of PTK, Lavada Burse, from Grayson College in Denison, Texas also spoke.

The induction ceremony helped mark a very successful year for the SAC chapter.

IPKK 2020 clean up.jpgn the spring, the SAC chapter received an Award of Merit in the College Project for Community Services category at the PTK Texas Regional Conference. The award recognized the SAC chapter for volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House, the Catholic Worker House soup kitchen, and the San Antonio Food Bank.

The  Texas regional conference also recognized several SAC students with the District V Hall of Honor Award for being outstanding members in their chapter. Receiving the award were:

  • Skylar Krawczyk
  • Sarah Ramirez
  • Logan Ray
  • Yoselin Guajardo Rincon
  • Chelsea Shwartz
  • Joanda "JoJo" Zuniga

In addition, Professor Jim Lucchelli, student development coordinator and faculty advisor for PTK, received the Horizon Award, an honor given to faculty advisors in Texas who provide outstanding guidance to students in their college chapter.

“This semester, we persevered through online learning and social distancing. We had our first virtual induction ceremony, started our PTK Beta Nu Merit Award Program, as well as the San Antonio College Clubs "Bounce Back" Program,” said Samantha Grimaldi, president of SAC’s Beta Nu chapter.

“The Merit Award Program will provide deserving students with a fully paid membership into Phi Theta Kappa. The College Clubs Program will help campus clubs and organizations with mentoring, as well as funding that they might need. We are hoping to be a Five Star Chapter this school year!” Grimaldi added.
